Townsend has more than twenty-five years of experience in playing and coaching adapted sports and recreation. During the past two decades, he has had the opportunity to travel all over the United States and the world playing and coaching younger players, including camps and clinics in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia, Spain, Mexico, Australia, and El Salvador. He also played wheelchair basketball professionally in Australia (2004) and Spain (2009). Townsend is part of Clemson University’s Adaptive Sport and Recreation Lab which provides high-quality adaptive sports programming and conducts applied research locally, nationally, and internationally. He is the head coach of the Rollin’ Tigers, South Carolina’s only junior wheelchair basketball team.
