LaVern is a US Army Veteran and is married with 4 children. He played basketball and did track and field in High School. He played basketball and softball while in the US Army. He has been coaching basketball from youth to adult, men and women for almost thirty years. LaVern has also competed in the Veterans and Valor Games.
