WhRL National Team, Expression of Interest –
Sponsorship & Partnership
The USA WhRL national team is managed solely by Carolina League Academy (CLA); a registered state/federal non-profit 501(c)3 set up in 2018 to be the only inclusive sporting organization in the USA with a commitment to supporting people with a disability.
All operations are based out of the team HQ in Columbia, South Carolina. We also have our WhRL facilities located in Irmo, SC that we have used to host exhibition games and national team combines to date.
Due to Covid, the Rugby League World Cup 2021 was postponed until 2022, which has had a positive impact on the USA WhRL team. For the first time in history (and due to the tireless work of the CLA team), we have managed to secure a spot for USA WhRL Team at the Rugby League World Cup 2021, which will be hosted in England between October 15th and November 19th, 2022.
From 2019 to 2022, USA WhRL have gone from zero to forming a competitive national team to gaining a berth in the largest Rugby League competition in the world. Our participation in the event is not possible without the support of our partners and sponsors.
The Rugby League World Cup 2022 is set to be the largest World Cup in terms of engagement, attendance and viewership in the history of the tournament.
For the first time in its history, all Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair games will be broadcast live via the BBC and their international partners. All games will also be available to stream via catch-up services.
The UK Government have invested £25million into the tournament and its broadcasting, which is the single largest investment since the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
The popularity of Rugby League continues to rise year-on-year, with the Rugby League World Cup 2022 being the largest tournament in the calendar and only being held once every four years.
This years event is set to be the largest World Cup ever held, with a predicted 750,000 spectators across all tournaments and 150million viewers worldwide via TV, with an additional outreach of 300million via official and partner social media channels..

14% of our financial cost is attributed to hosting regional combines to select players to represent the USA national team at major tournaments, including the World Cup, as well as holding training sessions for those we are developing within our Elite Player Pathway.
33% of our financial cost is attributed to travel and accommodation for our players. This includes domestic travel for regional combines and tournaments, as well as international travel for major tournaments, including the World Cup.
36% of our financial cost is attributed to our wheelchairs, which includes acquisition, spare parts and maintenance. CLA are currently looking to acquire fourteen wheelchairs for the national team to use until the next World Cup in 2025.
17% of our financial cost is attributed to all other costs including insurance, marketing, court hire for combines and training and all other costs associated above.
