The ever-present reality of competing in Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) in England later this year is an exciting prospect to showcase the talent and skills of the US National Team. The USA Wheelchair side is in Group B in this year’s tournament.
The teams the US will face in that group are Wales, Scotland, and the Current World Champions, France. If the US team make it to the knockout stages of the tournament, their first opponent would be the England team which is currently ranked No. 2 in the world. The US National Team come in as a new national team along with Spain and Australia which are in Group A.
This year’s RLWC will host the Men’s, Women’s, and Wheelchair competitions being held over the same timeframe. This year will also see every minute of every match being broadcast on various platforms across the globe.
The US was successful in their world cup bid which was applied for in 2019. This has assisted in launching the sport in the US and the establishment of a domestic competition later this year under the Carolina Rugby League Banner. The national team is based out of Seven Oaks Park in Irmo, Columbia, South Carolina. The team have been preparing for this world cup since January of 2020.
The covid pandemic has been a difficult situation to navigate during this time and we have been fortunate to be able to train through the global pandemic. The remaining national team training schedule is as follows:
The US Team will depart for the RLWC on Oct 29th and fly out of Hartsfield-Jackson International airport in Atlanta, Georgia on Oct 30th. If you are interested in seeing the National Team in action come down and support the team at any training session
